We connect caring, trained volunteer tutors with adult students with low literacy skills. Literacy Council tutors serve two groups of adult students—those who need help learning to read and/or write better, and those who need help learning English. Learning to read, write, and speak English are critical skills for getting/keeping a job, helping children with schoolwork, and communicating with teachers, doctors, landlords, and other people in the community. Community volunteers are trained to work one-on-one with students, providing direct instruction and practicing literacy skills.
