Disability Rights helps people across Wisconsin gain access to services and opportunities through its advocacy and legal expertise. When a person contacts Disability Rights they are connected with an Intake Specialist who will gather information about the caller’s concern to determine if the concern meets DRW criteria. Depending on the nature of the concern, DRW may provide a variety of advocacy services pertaining to priority issues such as abuse and neglect, patient rights, deinstitutionalization, special education, voting rights, discrimination in employment and housing, barriers to accessibility, assistive technology, victims of crime, and access to services. Advocacy services offered include: information and referral, advice and guidance in self-advocacy, investigating, negotiating or mediating on your behalf, or representing clients in legal proceedings. Other services include Family Care/IRIS Ombudsman, SSI managed care advocacy, and a Medicare Part D helpline. Disability Rights does not provide legal assistance for bankruptcies, traffic tickets, criminal cases, or family law issues like child custody, child support or divorce.
