What is United Way's PATH for Students?
Providing Access to Healing (PATH) is a United Way of Sheboygan County (UWSC) initiative that places licensed professional clinicians in the school setting to increase access to care for students throughout Sheboygan County. Partnering with Mental Health America in Sheboygan County (MHA), Lakeshore Community Healthcare (LCHC), and Ozaukee Community Therapies LLC (OCT), PATH provides treatment and coping skills for students and their families struggling with common issues such as depression, anxiety, ADHD, and relationship stressors among other emotional and behavioral challenges common to students today.
These licensed professional clinicians are based in the schools to ensure improved direct access to mental health treatment, assessment, and social support in a stressful environment, thus, lessening the likelihood of diminished school attendance and missed therapy appointments. Assessment and treatment are provided regardless of an individual’s ability to pay, however, when possible, private insurances are billed.
In 2017, PATH was present in two school districts as well as Head Start, with 10 days of services. Through the support of UWSC, Sheboygan County Health and Human Service (DHHS), and the Sheboygan County School Districts, in 2018, PATH expanded to all school districts as well as Head Start, with 65 days of services provided by LCHC and OCT. Currently schools that participate in PATH include:
