One can never really know the darkness someone faces. With the recent and public losses of both Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdain and local community members by suicide, I hope you take a moment to read this article that helps us understand how we talk about suicide matters. I also wanted to take a moment to share: let us not be afraid to remind ourselves to reach out when in need. Check in with, and check on, those you love. Try to do so without judgement for yourself or others. Be kind and gracious to those you don't know. Let us all challenge our own fears and live our best authentic selves. Unabashedly ourselves. Our hearts are heavy and with all those who struggle with suicidal ideations and/or as suicide loss survivors, such as the hundreds of local families and friends who join us each year to make a difference and know the pain of suicide loss all too well. At MHA we believe that there is hope and together we can support efforts to improve systems that create communities where everyone feels included to live, work, and play in. To be connected to something greater than one's self. A community that works to be curious, without shaming and blaming individuals. I truly believe that is at the core of what MHA tries to do and we couldn't do it without you. So thank you for being a part of this all.
